What pills can you get from the Doc to help quit smoking and what do they do?

I'm interested in anything that can help me stay off the ciggies. so if anyone can help that would be fantastic. I'm already on day 4 and still feeling positive!

What pills can the doc give me and what do they do?

my friend has just has a leg operation ,and she has to quit, there is a pill from the doctor, cant remember name but your doc will know, it works like this, you take the pills, but keep smoking for a set time, a week i reckon, then you stop smoking, must be the pills kick in, two people my friend knows have done it using this tablet, so go to doc and get it,

champix tablets you take them for about 10 days smoking less each day then you pick a day to stop they are very good im on them now you take them until you stop completely just take one now and again

There are 2 different ones Zyban has been around for years & helps, newest one is Champix which I tried – you start pills & set a date to stop, you keep taking them under medical supervision. I gave up without too much of a struggle. I could not take Zyban as I am epileptic. Champix is only prescribed after you have tried everything else & not succeeded in giving up. Try to carry on as you are rather than taking pills as they all have side effects. I believe medication is a last resort. good Luck.

Hi, the pills from the dr are called champix here in the uk called something else in usa etc ,, its a 12 week course, you start taking them before you give up and then quit on between day 8 and day 12 they are very good but you still need willpower you must want to give up ,, i gave up using them 15 monthes ago and would recomend them ,, now being smoke free is great even though i still ocasionally crave for a smoke , but never gave in yet ,,goodluck you can do it, i was a 40 a day man for like 25 years .

Chantix and Wellbutrin.

Question for Chantix. I had smoked for 20 yrs and couldn't seem to quit. I couldn't use Zyban because I had allergic reaction to it. the Chantrix is better because you continue to smoke when you start taking it. Pick a day to quit ( I took the meds for 2 wks. before quitting) this stuff works by blocking the nicatine from getting to your brain. you may find yourself smoking more at first, but thats because your not getting the nicatine. when I finally chose to not light up I thought I wouldn't last till noon, but it's been nearly 2 yrs. now and I have never looked back. I'm free !
