Do you believe that people will quit smoking if they put scary pictures on packs?
Do you believe that making laws to make taking drugs illegal ever stopped anyone from taking drugs? when they made alcohol illegal it created gangs and mobs and made most people alcoholics. I believe that most people when told they cannot do something want to do it more.
What do you reckon?
I reckon that people like the user "yourinnervoice" need to show more understanding and compassion.
No matter what drug, alcohol, nicotine, prescriptions or illegal, they affect a person's mind, it is addictive and quitting is NOT simple/simple. as with any addiction away from substances, look at sex addicts, obsessive compulsive disorders, hoarders etc etc
People are aware of the dangers, the addictiveness but will make their own choice on what do.
Pictures, facts, statements etc will only affect certain people.
Many scary pics are unfortunately not real, well here in Australia anyway, we have the pics on the pack. But the truth comes out what the real reason behind the photo is.
For example: A young child with oxygen – "caused by smoking parents" – was really a photo of a child in an ER suffering an asthma attack yet from a non smoking home. the photo was originally for an asthma ad. the gang grene feet can be associate with diabetes and other circulatory disorders etc etc.
People will take them at shock value or will just ignore/shrug them off.
What will they do with alcohol and other drugs as pictures?
Maybe it's time to put "dead" liver pics on alcohol bottles and also "dead" brains. would a dead/diseased liver and a diseased brain turn people off alcohol? as that is the effect of alcohol, yet people do not see that alcohol is as bad as smoking, they don't consider the damage alcohol does to the brain and liver and don't know you can't live without these working properly. then if you make it to "ancient age", there is a dementia that is specifically caused by alcohol abuse.
It does not matter how much advertising you put out there, people will do what they like.
Speed kills, seat belts save lives, sun causes cancer. Look around you, people speed, how many wear seat belts and look at all the people tanned or tanning on the beach.
They do the scary picture thing in Iceland, and everyone who's addicted to smoking still smokes. On the opposite side of the pack, it says in Icelandic "THESE WILL KILL YOU" yet people go on doing it.

Saw those graphics,they look like cartoons which could appeal to kids.Halloween pictures won't make people stop smoking.Nicotine and the additives make them addictive.Prohibition never worked and won't now.
Most people don't smoke because they necessarily delight in it; they're ADDICTED to the nicotine. Addiction is not a matter of stupidity.
