Louisa Law to quit smoking to aid cancer charity

A YOUNG mother who smokes up to 15 cigarettes a day has pledged to kick the habit in return for donations to a cancer charity.
Louisa Law, of Huntington, in York, is encouraging other smokers to join her “Sponsored Quit Smoking” and raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
the 20-year-ancient said her motivation was the terrifying thought that she might not live to see her three-year-ancient daughter, Gracie Lou, grow up.
She said: “My granddad died of lung cancer due to smoking when I was seven or eight. I don’t really remember much about him and that makes me sad.
“If he hadn’t smoked then maybe he would still be here today. It scares me that I might not be here for my children in the future and that’s why I want to give up.”
Louisa will stamp out her last cigarette on Sunday and has set up an events page, called Sponsored Quit Smoking, on the online social networking group, Facebook, to encourage other smokers to join her.
She said: “I’ve been smoking for about four years. I’ve given up twice before, but it only lasted a few months before I started smoking again. this time I’m hoping it’s for excellent.
“My daughter is going to be four this year and she’s starting to pick up on it. She keeps telling me that I’m not allowed to smoke.”
the latest available figures show more than 1,100 people across North Yorkshire die every year after being unable to give up cigarettes.
But there is help at hand. the North Yorkshire Stop Smoking Service offers smoking cessation programmes with specialist advisors, as well as information on other strands of help.
