But most important of all STAY POSITIVE. Talk about what you are going through, moan to anyone that will listen and don't let any frustration build up inside you. just remember that you are doing a good thing, not a bad one and feel proud of every achievement.

Use the patches. do not take a cigarette out of a packet. Save your money that you would have spent on cigarettes, and treat yourself when it has mounted up. I did it, if I can do it, you can. good luck

i quite smoking in 1981. i got up in the morning and had the usual bad taste in the mouth. i lit up and the taste was bad. at that point in time i threw the pack away and have not smoked since. if you want to quite you will.

Think about your future. now think about how you are going to die if you continue smoking. That motivate me to quit.

its been 5months now 4 me ,its bin hard but if i can do it any1 can ,i was smoking 40 aday ,save the money and have a holiday ,we are going in oct ,keep bizzy , i did it with patches ,and lots of will power good luck you can do it x

Lot's of willpower, and no hands helps.

i stopped ten months ago. i just stopped buying cigarrettes and insted bought chewing gums. for me it was not having it in my mouth, and trying to distract my attention, to do something else that didnt involve smoking. i then just stopped when the smell got unbearable, after a while of not puffing away, when someone smokes around you you just feel sick, and thats when you know, that you are truly given up!!
good luck, its not easy but its great when you dont do it no more!

i quit when i was pregnant with 3rd baby. i used lozenges. they were brilliant. i must admit i am a smoker again, but that had nothing to do with the lozenges. i was off the ciggies for 18 mths, i was on the lozenges 3 mths. i know if i wanted to quit again, they would be my first choice. they are the only things that actually give you that kick when your craving hits. (started smoking again due to personal circumstance)

good luck, its not easy

Nicorette gum. Reduce over a period of a month. Then ordinary airwaves gum for about 3 months………… worked for me.

Get a gym membership and work out like your training for a movie role, or body building contest. its all in your mind. Don't beleive the hype about endorphines in your brain causing you to smoke. "mind of matter".

You can do it!

smoking is just a state of mind! just like any other things that you like to do. if you set your mind to do it then you really can.I used to be a heavy smoker before because of some aspect that leads me in like stress.what I did I keep myself busy in cleaning my closet or reading some books that interest me much or anything which you like to do to divert your attention to smoking and when I feel tired just lay down and rest myself, you'll realise you skip half of your day without smoking.

every decission is govern by your mind dude you can control it..I hope you get some thoughts to that..gudluck man

Patches & willpower

Now stopped since March last year, couldn't have done it without them
Tried hypnosis bebore but only lasted 3 days

Main reason I stopped was because I didn't want to stand out in the pissing rain smoking when the ban came in, in Scotland

Anyone can quit smoking if they want to badly enough. This is what worked for me. After the surgeon general's report came out telling of the dangers of nicotene–a poisionous and addictive substance–I knew it was time to kick the habit. I choose to go cold turkey. I read everything that I could about the dangers of smoking–lung cancer, heart disease, wrinkles, bad breath, yellow teeth etc.–and psyched myself up to quit. It was the hardest thing that I have ever done, and also the smartest. I can now take a deep breath without coughing my quts out, and I can walk for miles with out tiring only to mention a few of the pluses. I chewed a lot of gum, walked, took deep breaths when I wanted a smoke, and had a lot of faith in myself; knowing that I could do it. I have never regreted my decision.

You have to WANT to do it. SHOULD just doesn't cut it! its all about motivation – mine was wanting to start a family.

And I know its an old faithful, but considering yourself a 'non-smoker' rather than 'trying to give up' is a big help, it somehow removes temptation.

Once motivated I was surprised how easy it was. There were habits to be broken, for example everytime I got in the car I used to wind down the window ready to smoke out of, after meals I used to sit back and light up before I moved. It helps to occupy and distract yourself, maybe take a new CD into the car so you can be busy retrieving the old one and putting it away rather than winding down the window, jumping up to do the washing up instead of kicking back and smoking. A little bit of thought, identifying weak moments and evasive behaviours before the event (always spark up as you get off the train? Get the bus, travel with a non smoker, carry so much you have no free hands…) helps alot.

I was pleasantly surprised how quickly these habits were broken, probably in 4 or 5 weeks.

Oh, and think about who you're going to tell that you are now a non smoker. Who will really support you? Who will ask how its going just as you reach for your first pint?!?

Good luck!!

got champix off my gp-no stress involved mate

Patches, take away the worst of the cravings, you still have bad days but on the whole they really helped me
