How long does it take for the effects of smoking to dissapear?
I am 26 and have decided to quit smoking. how long will it be until my body has recovered. I know it effects your skin i.e lines and so on has the long term effects already taken place on body? I have smoked for about 10-11 years about 12 a day.
I smoked 20-40 a day until I was over 40. When I gave up the doctor said that my chances of getting lung cancer would get back to the level of a non-smoker after about 10 years. the other stuff like coughs, bronchitis etc would be much quicker. he also said that if I had given up sooner the return to "normal" would have been much quicker.
As you are so much younger I guess that 3-4 years should suffice – and your breath and clothes small better almost immediately!
Withdrawal symptoms can be a problem. you may have diffficulty sleeping for a few days, your digestion may be a problem (cramps etc.), sweating and being snappy with everyone. my doctor also said and I have since confirmed by research, that nicotine is as addictive as heroin. If you can give up smoking then everything else in life is simple to achieve.
When you have given up be ready to be sensitive to other peoples smoke – it's disgusting!
Excellent luck – giving up is not simple but it's well worth it. I'm rooting for you!!
The critical effect is on your lungs. At 26 and not having smoked a fantastic deal there is every prospect that with a healthy diet and reasonable amount of exercise you will recover pretty much you full lung capacity so I'd give up now while you can.
Whoa. I was just checking out this health website about the same thing and yours was the first question that popped up.
I found this. It details everything from 20 minutes to 20 years after your last cigarette. Check it out: healthline.com/corporate/quit…
