How do I stop smoking?
Lately, I've been wanting to quit smoking. I'm tired of being tired after I get done playing a sport or running. But any time I see a cigarette, I feel the need to smoke. I know I want to quit but for some reason, I can't stop. I want to be healthy and not cough all the time. how can I be smoke free?
P.S. does quitting smoking make you happier and more energetic?
This may not be fore you…But as someone else mentioned, I too have been using electric cigarettes for a few months and they have helped my hubby and I in our quest to quit.
It was sooo easy to cut back. Week one I went from a pack a day to a 3-5 cigs a day. the hard part was choosing to stop the regular cigs completely. I looked at it like this, I am only smoking a few a day anyway, I might as well just not buy another pack. and since my packs were lasting so long they were getting stale, that helped too, my cigs started to taste bad, it even started to make me sick when I smoked them.
I am still addicted to nicotine, but I've been cutting my nicotine levels back in steps. I am to the point now I use 2 different carts low and 0 nicotine.
It is refillable and costs me $30-$35 a month to smoke. the flavors are also amazing, I thought I would want tobacco flavors, but quickly switched to fruity flavors, my favorite is banana cream.
After a few weeks with my ecig, I noticed I didn't wake up in the morning with a sore throat like I did when I smoked regular cigs. now after a few months, no more coughing up junk and I don't get winded walking up the stairs anymore. I'm sure it will take years to undue even half of the damage I did with smoking, but I'm off to a good start.
I had a million questions about how it all worked. I found a good vendor that was willing to take the time to answer my questions and support me through the transition.
I can only tell you what worked for me.
First-break the cigarette in half as soon as you take it out of the pack. This automatically cuts your smoking in half.
Second-Put your cigarettes in an inconvenient place and your lighter in another. This will reduce the impulsive smoking.
Third- when you leave the house, for errands or such, do not take your pack with you. You need to condition yourself into realizing that you can live and function without them.
Follow all the previous steps but start limiting yourself to just 5/day. then 4/day etc.
Pretty soon you will be happy, joyous and free.
And one more caveat. In the future do not think you can smoke just one. That's the trap everyone falls into. Be careful of that.
God bless and help you do this.
Going to therapy might help. also, think of everything you're hurting, not only your body but your money and others and the environment.
quitting smoking made me much happier and energetic, it improves the color of my skin and I got rid of that stale odor of tobacco.
But be ready to face smoking withdrawal symptoms. Craving for a cigarette is one of them. Deep breathing and immediate activity will help distract from the cravings. the worst of the cravings usually end within a couple of weeks after breaking free. Newly free smoker is considered to be in a good shape when he no longer thinks of cigarettes all the time.
Try to escape any contacts with cigarettes or smoking people. go to the gym, move a lot, drink water – it helps. You can find more information about smoking withdrawal symptoms here.
this might not help but there are fake smokes that dont light and you just put it in your mouth to help you stop smoking.
quiting smoking during the process will make you feel worse unless you use a patch or gum with nicotine, but after you are pretty much done quitting you will feel better and more energetic
get a electronic cigarette
yes more energy
I am 20 and have been smoking since I was 16. My mother is 49 this year and has also been smoking since she was 16.
I found this product that has helped both her and I quit smoking traditional cigarettes entirely. It's the electric cigarette from greensmoke. It is a battery run "cigarette" that looks and feels like you are smoking a regular tobacco cigarette, but without any of the chemicals, tar, ash and odour! the tip of the "cigarette" really lights up and when you exhale you breathe out what looks like cigarette smoke (It is actually just water vapour and some flavour). so you still get the illusion of smoking. You recharge the cigarette by plugging it into your computer, your electrical socket in the wall, or even your car!
There are quite a few brands of electric cigarettes out there. But in my research and trials I have found greensmoke to be the most "real" and satisfying product. My sister bought a cheap version on-line and I tried it when I went to go visit her and hardly any "smoke" comes out and it wasn't satisfying at all! and guess what! she's still a smoker so it obviously hasn't worked for her either. I will have to introduce her to this now that I've have found a good product.
How it works is instead of "burning" the nicotine like a traditional cigarette. the e-cigarette contains an atomizer that vaporizes the nicotine instead. so you still get your nicotine hit. the greensmoke electric cigarette comes in a few flavours including Tobacco, chocolate, vanilla, apple, coffee and strawberry. It also comes in different strengths just like a regular cigarette so you can get 8mg or 6mg or 16mg etc.
In the long run you also save money. after the initial purchase of the cigarette battery all you ever need to replace is the filter cartridges which last about as long as a packet of cigarettes. They cost about $15 American for a pack of 5. That's equivalent to roughly 5 packs of cigarettes which would usually cost you around $60!! so it works out to be a lot cheaper.

and if you want to buy one you can also buy it there. Give it a go. I did and am now a proud non-smoker
I used the patch and it worked. You just have to want it to work. You have to stick to what you want and not be weak and give in. Thats why most people don't make it. They give up on themselves. get rid of cigarettes that are around you and don't hang around with smokers while they're smoking. Stay away from them and you won't be tempted. Any time you feel like you're going to slip, catch yourself and make yourself realize that its just the withdrawl from the nicotine and that it'll pass. It WILL PASS!
Not sure about the happier and more energetic. You definitely feel healthier after a while. I think happiness has to do with you, not smoking.
