FUN seeking families are being urged to come together at a range of free activities as part of National Family Week.
Charnwood Borough Council’s Active together team has organised four brilliant activities featuring orienteering, a fitness boot camp, an open day at Loughborough Leisure Centre and a Picnic In The Park event for the national family celebration between Monday, May 30 and Monday, June 6.
Julie Robinson, Charnwood Borough Council’s Head of Neighbourhood Services, said: “National Family Week is a chance for everyone to recognise the vital roles our families play in our lives.
“To help mark the occasion, our Active together team has put together an excellent programme which will help families work as teams on orienteering, share the fun at a fitness ‘boot camp’ or delight in a load of free activities at the leisure centre’s annual open day.
“There’s something for everyone so don’t miss this excuse to bring your loved ones closer together!”
On May 30th, Loughborough Leisure Centre opens its doors for its annual open day. As well as a host of activities, there will also be a bouncy castle, roller skating, floats and much more. it runs from 10am-4pm at the Browns Lane facility and is absolutely free. for more information, contact Steve Wiggins on 01509 611080.
On June 1, the family boot camp will open up for some fun, activity-based fitness classes which helps families spend quality time together while boosting fitness. it will be held at Beacon Hill Country Park (meet at the lower car park) between 1.30pm and 2.30pm and costs just £1 per adult.
On June 2, families will take to the woods for orienteering which is designed to introduce families to the activity and includes map reading, running and route choice decision. it is designed to get families working together to solve clues to find a winning solution. it runs from 10am-12pm at The Outwoods (meet at the car park) and costs just £1 per adult.
On June 3, a free Picnic in the Park is being held in Halstead Road, Mountsorrel, between 1pm-4pm. there will be a bouncy castle, face painting, ice cream van, climbing wall, Early Years physical activity open play sessions and a variety of fun activities with the Council’s Play Rangers.
Active together will be promoting its activity programme and offering advice on how to become healthy & physically active while the stop Smoking team will be on hand with advice on how to quit smoking.
Charnwood Arts is also hosting a Picnic in the Park at Queen’s Park, Loughborough, on May 30 which will feature craft activities for the kids, ‘have a go archery’, sports taster sessions, dancers, singers, circus performers, face painters, henna artists, honest rides and local community groups all making it a great afternoon out for all the family.
