CROSSVILLE — "Smoke on the Mountain’s" final performances of the season at the Playhouse in Crossville, TN are on Oct. 25 and 29, 2011. Sponsored by Cracker Barrel old Country Store, this marks the end of "Smoke’s" 18th consecutive season at the Playhouse…its longest run anywhere! the year is 1938. It's Saturday night in Mount Pleasant, NC, and the Reverend Oglethorpe has invited the Sanders Family Singers to provide an upliftin' evening of singin' and witnessin'. the audience literally becomes the congregation. Two dozen traditional and original hymns, plus tales of witness from family members, form the very simple structure of the show. But the honesty, humor (sometimes unintentional!), and faith of this Southern mountain family and the church’s young preacher, connect strongly with audiences of all ages and faiths, who find themselves part of a very special afternoon or evening. Playhouse favorites Jason Ross, Bobby Taylor and Patty Payne, lead the cast as Rev. Oglethorpe, Burl Sanders and the “signing” Aunt June. Joining them is Daniel Black, as Uncle Stanley, the tough ex-con who “comes home” to church and family. Rounding out the all-star cast is Lauren Marshall as fiddlin’ Mama Vera, Emily Woods as twin daughter Denise and Austin Price as her brother Dennis—all multi-year veterans of Smoke. “Smoke is rated G except for “one word that ought not to be used in church,” but the family must have something to forgive Uncle Stanley for in the second act…and we hope you will forgive us. Whether you are seeing it for the first time or the twentieth, Smoke is a true audience favorite that you won’t want to miss. you can get tickets for all CCP shows and concerts, plus selected concerts at Crossville’s Palace Theater, plus performances by Cookeville Children’s Theater and Southern Stars Symphonic Brass, by visiting us online at ccplayhouse.com or calling 484-5000 for reservations.
